This page is dedicated to dishonest business operation, or in some way can be considered a criminal action.
A person contacted me via Kasamba.com and throw me a web development project. First, he claimed to own several web-hosting and data-centers in Australia. Later I learned that this person has several aliases such as Grant Lambden, Peter, Samie Davies and also some female aliases.
For a period of about less than 2 months, this person throw more than 3 projects with relatively high value. The projects including TheBeat MegaClub, Bessie Bardot and ECN/E5Web Data-Center website.
In the end I found out that this person is possibly committed a fraud and paid Kasamba.com with illegal credit cards. To my disappointment, Kasamba.com didn’t take enough measures to prevent such fraud. Moreover, I was the one to give Kasamba.com a warning regarding this client’s suspicious behaviour. Kasamba.com only send me a ’sorry’ note that I can’t use to pay my bills.

Posted by alwi in : berbagi ilmu , add a commentUntuk pertama kalinya saya membuat tempahan (booking) tiket online di www.lionair.co.id sendiri. Biasanya saya tidak mengurus detail perjalanan saya sendiri, pokoknya tahu beres tinggal bayar dan jalan dengan jadwal dan itenary sudah tersusun rapi.
Saya mencatat beberapa hal yang mungkin dapat diperhatikan oleh System Developer Lion Air di kemudian hari. Setidaknya 2 masalah teknis yang saya alami sewaktu saya melakukan pesanan tiket. Pertama ada sedikit kendala pada client-side script mereka, kedua kemungkinan juga ada kendala pada sinkronisasi LocalTime vs ServerTime di sana. Selengkapnya…

Why is it whenever I shoot this question, the other party have this tendency to hide the actual budget or try to reason and offer low? Even a colleague of mine –she’s an expert in financial planning– suggested not to mention the actual budget when asked so.

Posted by alwi in : berbagi ilmu , add a commentI received a call from a client, asking why when opening their website were they asked to enter a password to CPanel? And we are not even using CPanel for this client.
A few minutes later I learn that the problem is from “Tag-Board.com” component that my client had. Aparently Tag-Board.com is down!.
I suggest you all not to enter any username/password, there might be security risk here. Tag-Board.com made this announcement regarding the problem.
Tag-Board.com is temporary using new domain name “tag-board.biz”. To keep using Tag-Board.com component, you can go into your HTML code and modify the links to change the .com to .biz, or you can login to your Admin Page and get a new block of HTML code.
Windows Wireless Zero Config = Crap 22 August 2006
Posted by alwi in : berbagi ilmu , 1 comment so farMulanya saya heran, kenapa kok sejak saya sekarang online dengan wireless internet rasanya koneksi internetnya aneh. Sempat saya pikir karena jaringan RT/RW tempat saya numpang online ini yang kurang oke. Malah sempat saya berpikir paranoid, jangan-jangan saya kena trojan atau disusupi spyware.
Lama kelamaan setelah saya perhatikan, sepertinya masalahnya ada di Windows Wireless Zero Config (WZC) atau salah satu komponen TCP/IP dari windows, kemungkinan di layer atasnya driver WiFi Adapter saya.
Permasalahan WZC ini telah dikemukakan beberapa orang antara lain di Wired News dan Artikel SBC. Seperti biasa, pihak Microsoft tidak menanggapi masalah ini sebagai suatu bug, tapi sebuah feature.
Crappiest Pancibolic Antenna 10 August 2006

Gambar di samping adalah sebuah antena parabola dengan bahan tutup panci, biasa disebut antena pancibolik oleh para hacker jaringan nirkabel. Proses membuat parabola panci ini memakan waktu seminggu, ini karena saya memang belum tahu banyak mengenai hal ini dan selama seminggu saya belajar, baca-baca referensi, coba-cobi dan belasan kali gagal. Hacker berpengalaman paling hanya butuh beberapa menit untuk membuat Pancibolic se-crappy itu.
Bulan Agustus ini saya butuh sekali alternatif koneksi internet, karena saya terpaksa downgrade kuota langganan Speedy. Dengan klasifikasi langganan Speedy yang baru, saya terpaksa turun pangkat ke kelas yang lebih rendah dengan pertimbangan saya kemungkinan tidak mampu membayar biaya langganan bila saya mengambil paket ‘Profesional [2GB/bln]’.
Belajar Dari Cleaning Service dan Ofisboy 28 July 2006
Posted by alwi in : berbagi ilmu , 1 comment so farTadi saya jalan-jalan ke blog pak BR dan sempat baca tentang Programmer Lebih Suka Kerja di Rumahan dan beberapa komentar di sana-sini, akhirnya saya gatal juga mau tulis-tulis. Walau mungkin tidak relevan karena Pak BR menulis tentang bagaimana idealnya kantor untuk para programmer, sedangkan tulisan saya tentang bekerja di rumah.
Saya lebih sering kerja di rumah, karena saya memang pengangguran. Saya berpendapat bahwa tetap bekerja lebih baik daripada bekerja tetap. Walaupun kadang ‘tetap berpenghasilan’ bisa lebih pahit daripada ‘berpenghasilan tetap’ 
Setelah berapa lama, saya akhirnya belajar dari Ofisboy dan Cleaning Service tentang bagaimana cara untuk tetap menjaga produktivitas. Dan saya melakukannya dengan cara low-tech, sama seperti para Ofisboy dan Cleaning Service tersebut. Well… lowtech rules [sometimes…]. Tapi saya menggunakan mica dan spidol non-permanen untuk menghemat kertas.
Saya membuat 2 tabel dengan aplikasi spread-sheet terkenal yang kemudian saya cetak beberapa lembar. Tabel pertama adalah tabel produktivitas, dan tabel kedua adalah tabel untuk laporan penggunaan jam kerja –semacam absensi untuk pegawai– yang disesuaikan dengan ‘model kerja’ para IT-guy dan Pengacara.
